Half of Simon & Garfunkel, then a solo catalogue that ran from 'Still Crazy After All These Years' through the South African sessions of Graceland.

Paul Simon grew up in Queens and made his name with Art Garfunkel, writing "The Sound of Silence," "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and the rest of that catalogue before the duo split in 1970. His solo records moved through gospel, reggae and Latin American music across the seventies.

Graceland, released in 1986, was recorded largely with South African musicians including Ladysmith Black Mambazo and drew both enormous sales and criticism over the cultural boycott of apartheid South Africa. Simon followed it with The Rhythm of the Saints, built around Brazilian percussion. He has kept writing into his eighties, and hearing loss in one ear has shaped how he performs.
