PVA
South London electro-punk — club pressure with live-band violence, synths and drums locked in a knife fight.
Ella Harris and Josh Baxter met at a house party in 2017 and found they had overlapping musical taste; within weeks they played their first show at a pub Harris worked in, first performing as PVA Presents before shortening the name. Louis Satchell joined on drums in December 2018.
The band played the Windmill in Brixton and took support slots with Squid, Goat Girl, Shame, Audiobooks and Black Midi, building a reputation for pairing sequenced synths and drum machines with live drums and guitar, Harris and Baxter trading deadpan, half-spoken vocals over repetitive low-end pulses.
A set at Green Man led to a connection with producer Dan Carey, and the band's debut single, Divine Intervention, came out on his label Speedy Wunderground at the end of 2019. They signed to Ninja Tune in 2020 and released the EP Toner that November, its Mura Masa remix earning a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording.
Their debut album, Blush, followed in 2022, drawing on acid house, EBM and post-punk in roughly equal measure. A second album, No More Like This, is set for release in January 2026.
