Producer folding live saxophone into heavy bass music, a rare instrumentalist's touch in a scene built on the drop.

Sodown is Ehssan Karimi, a producer and saxophonist from Denver who moved into bass music from a background playing the horn. His tracks sit in the heavier end of dubstep and halftime, with saxophone lines written into the arrangements rather than dropped over them, and he plays the parts live on stage between the mixing.

He grew up listening to hip hop, funk, soul and reggae, drawing on Wu-Tang Clan, Method Man, The Meters, Parliament and James Brown, influences that still surface in the phrasing of his saxophone lines over the low end.

His move into electronic music traces back to seeing Pretty Lights perform at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 2010, an experience he has pointed to as the reason he started producing at all.

Years later he made his own debut at that same venue, opening for Pretty Lights at Red Rocks, a booking he described as a full circle moment given where his interest in the music had started.
