Melodic bass with genuine harmonic sophistication under the drops — a producer's producer whose sound design gets studied as much as danced to.

Au5 is the recording name of American producer Austin Collins, who works in the melodic side of bass music. His tracks pair dubstep and drum-and-bass structures with dense, harmonically detailed writing — layered chord progressions, extended arrangements and heavily processed synthesis that gives the drops a distinct, often orchestral character. He has released through bass-focused labels and built an audience partly through the wider melodic dubstep scene that grew online in the 2010s. Alongside his own releases he is known for collaborations and remixes, and among other producers for his sound design work, which is frequently picked apart and discussed in production communities.
