Coined 'heaven trap' and then spent a decade proving it was a real thing — gospel-sized drops with genuine ache.

Slander began when Derek Andersen and Scott Land met through their fraternity, Kappa Sigma, at the University of California, Irvine. Both went on to study production together at Icon Collective, the same school that produced their frequent collaborator Nghtmre. The duo's name is a compound of their own, Scott Land and Andersen, and they started out playing for college friends before moving into local venues.

Their profile grew quickly in 2014 when a remix of Showtek's 'We Like to Party' passed twelve million plays on YouTube, the moment credited with turning Slander from a local act into a touring one and cementing the emotive, drop-heavy style they would soon call heaven trap.

Beyond Gud Vibrations, the label and event series founded with Nghtmre, Slander also runs its own imprint, Heaven Sent. The pair held residencies at XS Las Vegas and later at Wynn Resorts, giving them a steady base on the Las Vegas circuit alongside their touring schedule.

Slander began releasing through the Canadian label Monstercat in 2017, starting with 'Superhuman'. That year also brought collaborations with Kayzo, including 'Without You', featuring vocalist Dylan Matthew, who went on to co-write 'Love Is Gone', the track that carried Slander's sound to an audience well outside dance music.
