Special Duties came out of Colchester in Essex in the late 1970s, part of the second wave of UK punk that shaded into oi!. Fronted by Steve Arrogant, the band dealt in short, blunt, chant-driven songs with a broad terrace-style delivery, and became best known for the 1982 single "Bullshit Crass" and the album '77 In '82, both of which set them against the anarcho-punk scene of the period. The group has re-formed and recorded intermittently since, still working the same fast, unadorned template.
