The Amity Affliction

Queensland metalcore veterans two decades deep, alternating screamed verses with huge clean choruses — heavy music that never hides its emotional stakes.

The Amity Affliction formed in Gympie, Queensland in 2003, and became one of the most widely heard Australian metalcore bands of their generation. Their songs typically pair screamed verses from Joel Birch with melodic clean choruses sung by bassist Ahren Stringer, a dynamic that has stayed constant across their catalogue even as the production and electronic elements have shifted. Birch's lyrics deal directly with depression, grief and suicide, and that openness has been as much a part of the band's reputation as the music itself. They have released a long run of albums that have charted strongly in Australia, and tour internationally.
