The Boxcars

1 upcoming festival

Bluegrass supergroup around mandolinist Adam Steffey and multi-instrumentalist Ron Stewart, four albums of hard-driving material between 2010 and 2016.

The Boxcars formed in 2009 out of players who had already spent years in other well-known bands: mandolinist Adam Steffey, previously with Alison Krauss & Union Station and Mountain Heart, and Ron Stewart, who had worked with J.D. Crowe and the Lonesome River Band and moves between banjo and fiddle. Keith Garrett sang lead and wrote much of the material, with Harold Nixon on bass. The band recorded four albums between 2010 and 2016 and took IBMA instrumental group of the year honors more than once, playing at a hard tempo with the mandolin and banjo trading breaks.
