New Zealand duo working the deep, sub-heavy end of dubstep — sound-system music, not festival music, and better for it.

Truth is the name used by Christchurch-formed production duo Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake, working in dubstep since 2007; a third member, Julian Van Auden, left in 2011 and now performs solo as Gamble. Their break came when Mala of Digital Mystikz signed their debut single, "The Fatman / Stolen Children", released in 2009 on the label DEEP MEDi Musik.

Their sound favours the genre's darker, more spacious tendencies: long sub-bass tones, sparse percussion and a heavy emphasis on low-end weight, built for large sound systems rather than peak-time impact, with influences drawn from dub, reggae, drum & bass and hip-hop.

Their debut album, Puppets, followed in 2010 on Sydney's Aquatic Lab Records and was nominated for Best Dubstep Album at the 2011 DubstepForum Awards, praised at the time for representing dubstep in a pure, sub-heavy form. A New Zealand-only double-disc edition directed its proceeds to Christchurch earthquake rebuilding charities, and a second album, Love's Shadow, followed in 2012.

Truth have released widely across dubstep labels since, run their own imprint, and toured North America, the UK and Europe, Latin America and their home region of New Zealand and Australia. Now splitting time between Portland, Oregon and Christchurch, they remain among the better-known acts to emerge from New Zealand's bass-music scene.
