8ULENTINA is a producer and DJ who co-founded Club Chai, the Oakland-based label and party started with FOOZOOL, which built a platform for diasporic and SWANA artists working in club music. Their productions draw on percussion patterns and melodic material from Turkish and wider Middle Eastern traditions, set against the metallic textures, abrupt edits and irregular rhythms associated with deconstructed club.
The results tend to be dense and percussive rather than smooth, with folk instrumentation processed and cut into forms designed for a soundsystem. 8ULENTINA has since been based in New York.
