Ariana Grande grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, and came to attention playing Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon's 'Victorious' and its spin-off 'Sam & Cat' before releasing 'Yours Truly' in 2013. Her singing draws on the melismatic R&B of the 1990s, and she moves into whistle tones often enough that audiences wait for them.
