Emo's original singalong leader — Chris Carrabba conducting thousands through 'Hands Down' and 'Screaming Infidelities', acoustic confession turned mass ritual.

Dashboard Confessional began in 1999 in Boca Raton, Florida, as a solo outlet for Chris Carrabba, who was then also singing with Further Seems Forever. Early records such as The Swiss Army Romance and The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most were largely acoustic and diaristic, with Carrabba's voice pushed to the front and lyrics that audiences memorised word for word.

The project expanded into a full band for A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar and Dusk and Summer, adding electric guitars and a broader rock sound, and Carrabba contributed "Vindicated" to the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. An MTV Unplugged performance early in the band's run captured the call-and-response quality that has defined its shows ever since.
