Benjamin Ingrosso
Swedish pop singer who came up through Melodifestivalen and went to Eurovision with "Dance You Off," building a sleek disco-funk sound around it.
Benjamin Ingrosso was born in Danderyd, near Stockholm, into a well-known Swedish entertainment family: his father Emilio Ingrosso is a former dancer turned restaurant owner, his mother Pernilla Wahlgren a singer and actress, and his cousin is Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia. He is a self-taught pianist and guitarist.
He performed as a child, acting in musicals and winning the junior contest Lilla Melodifestivalen in 2006 with "Hej Sofia". The following year he released "Jag är en astronaut", a cover of a song his uncle Linus Wahlgren had recorded in 1985, which reached number two on the Swedish singles chart.
He first entered Melodifestivalen in 2017 with "Good Lovin'", finishing fifth, then returned in 2018 and won with "Dance You Off", a song he co-wrote with Louis Schoorl and K Nita. He also hosted his own TV series, "Benjamin's", on TV4 and has released five studio albums to date.
His records lean on falsetto vocals, slap bass and clean guitar lines drawn from late-seventies and early-eighties disco and soft funk. He writes and co-produces much of his own material, and his Swedish releases have made him a steady presence on the country's charts.
