Montreal's helmeted apocalypse trio — cinematic electro-bass performed like a dystopian rock band.

Black Tiger Sex Machine is an electronic trio from Montreal, made up of Marc Chagnon, Julien Maranda and Patrick Barry. The group performs wearing illuminated tiger helmets, and the live show is built entirely around that identity, with lighting and staging designed to work with the masks rather than around them.

Their music sits between electro house, dubstep and heavier bass styles, favouring dark, cinematic builds and abrasive drops. Onstage the trio work from a central mixer, drum machines, launchpads and keyboards, with the LED lighting on the helmets synced directly to the music rather than run as a separate effect.

They also run their own label, Kannibalen Records, which has signed artists such as Kai Wachi, Apashe, Dabin and Lektrique, releasing work by a wider circle of Canadian bass producers and helping establish a recognisable house sound around the crew. Booking for the group runs through United Talent Agency, which took over after acquiring their previous agency, Circle Talent Agency.
