Marie Davidson (Live)
Montreal's deadpan club philosopher — 'Work It' irony at 130 BPM, electro-club critique you can sweat to.
Marie Davidson is a producer and vocalist from Montreal who works in electro, techno and spoken word, delivering wry, first-person monologues in French and English over hardware-driven club tracks. She was previously half of the duo Essaie Pas, and released the album Working Class Woman on Ninja Tune, which included "Work It" — a track about labour and self-discipline that became a club staple and was widely remixed. Her later record Renegade Breakdown moved toward live band arrangements and conventional singing. Her performances are built around machines and voice, with the commentary as much a part of the set as the rhythm.
