The Planet Smashers formed in Montreal in 1994 and became one of Canada's most persistent ska bands, emerging during the third-wave ska boom of the 1990s. Led by Matt Collyer, the group plays upbeat, horn-driven ska with punk energy, favouring short songs and audience participation over instrumental complexity.
They founded the label Stomp Records, which went on to release records by a number of other Canadian ska and punk bands. The Planet Smashers have toured steadily for three decades, and their live shows lean heavily on the danceable, singalong end of their catalogue.
