Moonshine
Montreal's roving SMS-only party turned collective — pan-African club sounds, moonlit, a whole scene distilled into one set.
Moonshine began in Montreal as a party held on the Saturday following each full moon, with details circulated by text message rather than public listings. It was started by Pierre Kwenders and Hervé Kalongo, and grew into a collective and label whose output centres on the meeting point between African and diasporic club music and Montreal's own electronic scene — amapiano, gqom, kuduro, coupé-décalé and house among the reference points. The project has released compilations gathering producers from across that network, and its events function as much as a curatorial platform as a club night.
