Dan + Shay are a country duo formed in Nashville in 2012 by Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. Smyers, from Pennsylvania, and Mooney, from Arkansas, met in Nashville and began writing together almost immediately; Smyers also handles much of the production on their records.
Their sound leans heavily on close two-part harmony and pop songcraft, with acoustic-guitar-and-keyboard arrangements that sit closer to contemporary pop than to traditional country instrumentation. They are best known for slow, melodic ballads, including "Tequila" and "Speechless," and for the widely heard collaboration "10,000 Hours" with Justin Bieber.
