Vein.fm side project gone huge — grunge-gaze heaviness for the new generation, Deftones worship refracted through hardcore muscle.

Fleshwater is a Massachusetts band formed by members of the hardcore group Vein.fm, with Marisa Shirar sharing vocals alongside guitarist Anthony DiDio. The music trades Vein's speed for weight and texture: downtuned alternative metal riffing, washed-out shoegaze guitar and softly delivered melodies, with the two vocal approaches often set against each other within a single song. The debut album We're Not Here to Be Loved drew comparisons to Deftones and to 1990s alternative rock more broadly, and the project has since grown well beyond the scale of a side band.
