Started as teenage hardcore and grew into something ragged and grand — swaggering, unstable post-punk with a frontman who performs like the floor might give way.

Iceage formed in Copenhagen in 2008, when its members were still teenagers, and drew early attention for a debut of short, blunt songs that sat somewhere between hardcore and post-punk. Over subsequent records the band slowed down and widened out, bringing in piano, horns, strings and country and gospel inflections while keeping the abrasive edge of the early material.

Elias Bender Rønnenfelt's vocals — half-sung, half-slurred, often drifting off the beat — remain the band's most recognisable feature, as does a live presence built on unpredictability rather than polish. Their albums include New Brigade, You're Nothing, Plowing Into the Field of Love, Beyondless and Seek Shelter.
