A poet who performs like a frontman — the voice on some of British jazz's biggest recent moments, funny and furious in the same breath.

Joshua Idehen is a British-Nigerian poet, vocalist and songwriter who came up through London's spoken-word scene and fronted the band Benin City. He is best known for his collaborations with musicians from the British jazz and electronic worlds: he wrote and performed the vocals on Sons of Kemet tracks including the closing piece of Black to the Future, and has made records with the production duo LV. His delivery moves between deadpan humour, direct political anger and something closer to singing, usually built over repetitive grooves that let the words drive the piece.
