Saint Etienne

2 festivals played

Thirty-five years of pop about London — house records, sixties girl-group melody and a fan's archive habit, all in the same song.

Saint Etienne formed in 1990 around Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, childhood friends from Croydon who had run a fanzine called Caff that grew into a small record label. Sarah Cracknell joined as singer shortly afterward, becoming the group's permanent voice after recording "Nothing Can Stop Us." The band's name comes from the French football club AS Saint-Etienne.
