Freak Slug is the recording project of Manchester-based artist Xenya Genovese, who writes and records songs that sit between indie pop and lo-fi bedroom recording. The material is built around soft, slightly blurred guitar lines and low-key vocals, with production that keeps a home-made texture rather than a polished one. Shoegaze influence turns up in the guitar tones and in the way the vocals sit inside the mix rather than on top of it.
