Mandy, Indiana formed in Manchester around vocalist Valentine Caulfield, who is French and writes and delivers her lyrics in her first language, and guitarist and producer Scott Fair. The group fills out into a full band live, pairing programmed and electronic elements with drums, guitar and heavily processed noise. The result sits between industrial, noise rock and dance music, with rhythms that are rigid and repetitive under layers of distortion.
The band released its debut album, I've Seen a Way, on Fire Talk in 2023, following earlier short-form releases. Caulfield's vocals tend to be shouted or chanted rather than sung, and the lyrics often carry a political edge that goes unnoticed by listeners who do not speak French. Onstage the group leans into volume and strobing intensity, treating the set as a continuous, disorienting block of sound rather than a sequence of separate songs.
