South London post-punk's sweatiest live act — communion by mosh, shirtless and crowd-borne by mid-set, 'One Rizla' to now, all sweat.
Shame formed in south London around 2014, with several members meeting through the Queen's Head pub in Brixton, a hub for the same scene that produced Fat White Family. Fronted by Charlie Steen, the band plays a wiry, aggressive strain of post-punk built on interlocking guitars and shouted, sardonic vocals.
Their debut album, Songs of Praise, appeared in 2018 and included "One Rizla" and "Concrete." Later records have pushed the sound in denser, more angular directions. Shame's reputation rests heavily on their live performances, which are physical and confrontational.
