Lynn Gunn's project, drifting steadily from rock toward glossy synth-pop without losing the edge — one-woman vision at arena polish.

PVRIS formed in Lowell, Massachusetts in 2012, emerging from the New England scene around post-hardcore and pop-punk before settling into something else entirely. The project is built around Lynn Gunn, who writes, sings and increasingly produces, and who took over as its sole permanent member after earlier lineups.

The early material paired guitar-driven alternative rock with atmospheric electronics and Gunn's high, clear vocal; later records leaned harder into synthpop and programmed production while keeping the same sense of tension. Gunn's lyrics have consistently dealt with anxiety, faith and personal reckoning, and she has spoken publicly about her identity and about taking fuller creative control of the project's sound and visuals.
