Screaming Dead
Early-eighties British horror punk turned goth, formed in Cheltenham in 1980 — B-movie imagery and graveyard theatrics played at punk speed.
Screaming Dead came together in Cheltenham in 1980 and belonged to the wave of British punk bands that drifted toward goth and deathrock as the decade progressed. Their material leaned on horror-film iconography — graveyards, monsters, the imagery of cheap late-night cinema — set to fast, guitar-driven punk with the reverb and minor-key melodies associated with the early gothic rock scene. They recorded for independent labels and worked largely within the UK's small-venue circuit, and are remembered mainly by collectors of the period's horror punk and deathrock records.
