Tyne and Wear punk outfit going since 1977, back on the road decades later with the same terse, melodic three-chord urgency.

The Carpettes came together in 1977 in the north-east of England, part of the first wave of British punk that arrived with the form still taking shape. Early singles appeared on Small Wonder Records before the band moved to Beggars Banquet, where they released their albums at the turn of the 1980s.

Their material leans towards the melodic, tuneful end of punk rather than the confrontational one, with short songs, plain guitar arrangements and vocal hooks close to power pop. The band stopped in the early 1980s and returned decades later, continuing to play the same catalogue of brief, direct songs.
