The Ataris

1 upcoming festival

Long-running American pop-punk act whose late-90s and early-2000s run made them fixtures of the skate-punk era, still touring on those hooks.

The Ataris formed in Anderson, Indiana in 1996 around singer and guitarist Kris Roe, who has remained the band's only constant member through many lineup changes. Early records on Kung Fu Records established them within the late-1990s American pop-punk scene, with fast, melodic songs and lyrics rooted in nostalgia, small towns and adolescence. Their widest exposure came with the 2003 album So Long, Astoria and its cover of Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer", which reached mainstream radio and television. Later work moved toward a slower, more indie-leaning sound, though live sets still draw heavily on the earlier material.
