The Chats are a punk trio from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, fronted by bassist and vocalist Eamon Sandwith. They came to wider attention through "Smoko," a short, blunt song about a cigarette break whose video circulated widely online and set the template for much of what followed: fast tempos, shouted vocals, and lyrics about pubs, jobs, and everyday Australian annoyances.
Their songs are typically brief and built on simple, driving riffs, delivered in Sandwith's broad accent with little polish. The band has released full-length albums including "High Risk Behaviour" and toured internationally on the strength of their live shows.
