The Slocan Ramblers

1 upcoming festival

Toronto bluegrass band with a banjo-forward attack and a repertoire that leans on old-time and traditional material taken at speed.

The Slocan Ramblers formed in Toronto, taking their name from a valley in British Columbia, and came out of the city's weekly bluegrass jam sessions. Frank Evans plays banjo, Adrian Gross mandolin, Darryl Poulsen guitar and Alastair Whitehead bass, and the four of them favor instrumental interplay over polish, pushing fiddle tunes and old-time songs harder than most. The vocals are plain and unfussy. The arrangements leave a lot of room for the banjo to lead.
