Anberlin formed in Winter Haven, Florida, in 2002, and spent their first years on Tooth & Nail before moving to a major label. Fronted by Stephen Christian, the band paired hook-driven alternative rock with layered guitar work, and their records were often read against the wider Christian-adjacent rock scene of the period even as they resisted being defined by it. "Cities" remains their most cited album, and songs such as "Feel Good Drag" carried them to rock radio. The group announced their end in 2014 and played farewell shows before reconvening later in the decade to tour and record again.
