Beck Hansen grew up in Los Angeles and broke through in 1994 with 'Loser', a slide-guitar and drum-machine track that arrived when the industry was hunting for slacker anthems. 'Odelay', produced with the Dust Brothers, built on sample collage and won two Grammys.
From there he kept changing approach: 'Mutations' and 'Sea Change' were quiet and largely acoustic, the latter written after a breakup, while 'Midnite Vultures' went hard at falsetto funk. He has worked repeatedly with Nigel Godrich, and 'Morning Phase' took Album of the Year in 2015.
