David Ritschard

1 festival played

Swedish-language songwriting with a country lope and a deadpan baritone — everyday melancholy delivered like a joke that turns serious halfway through.

David Ritschard is a Swedish singer and songwriter, born in 1989 and from the Björkhagen district of Stockholm. He writes and sings in Swedish, pairing a low, conversational baritone with arrangements that borrow from country and the older Swedish visa tradition. He made his solo debut with Brobrännaren in 2019 and broke through with Blåbärskungen in 2021, following it with Detta har hänt, which brought in guests including Lisa Ekdahl, Slowgold and Sebastian Murphy.

His songs tend toward small domestic scenes and dry, self-deprecating observation, with the humour and the sadness usually arriving in the same line. He has also played with the bands The Green Line Travelers and Spinning Jennies.
