Gothic pop with metallic edges — theatrical dark-pop vocals over production that keeps one boot in the metal scene.

DeathbyRomy is the recording name of Romy Flores, born in 1999 and raised in Los Angeles, who wrote her first song at age five and began performing professionally at fifteen. She self-released her debut single, "Tiempo," followed by the album Monsters in 2018, which featured Lil B and Yung Bans. The stage name reflects past struggles with suicidal thoughts, framed as a claim on personal love.

Her work sits between alternative pop and darker electronic styles, pairing melodic, heavily processed vocals with production that draws on industrial and rock textures alongside conventional pop structures. Flores describes the mix as pop, trap, industrial and cinematic together, and points to The Beatles, Björk and Bring Me the Horizon as reference points.

The lyrics tend toward themes of mental health, obsession and heartbreak, delivered with a theatrical bent that carries into her visual presentation of goth clothing and dramatic makeup, drawing comparisons to Zola Jesus. Flores traces the interplay of life and death in her songs partly to her Mexican heritage and traditions such as Day of the Dead.

Flores signed to Capitol Records in 2019 and released "Problems" that October; the song went viral on TikTok and became her most streamed track, later reissued with a 24kGoldn remix. The same year's EP Love U - to Death featured the single, and a second EP, Songs For My Funeral, followed in 2021 alongside the song "Day I Die."

Since 2022 Flores has released music independently through ONErpm, starting with the EP Entropy and the 2023 single "Hellhound," featuring Jazmin Bean. Her second studio album, Hollywood Forever, came out in 2025, extending the same combination of pop songwriting and industrial-leaning production.
