Rotterdam crew working at the slowed-down, maximum-weight end of deathcore — riffs that lumber rather than sprint, built for sheer crushing pressure.
Distant formed in Rotterdam in 2014 and works at the slow, low-tuned end of deathcore, drawing on downtempo and slamming styles as well as death metal. Vocalist Alan Grnja fronts the group, and the songs are built around drawn-out riffs, sparse drumming and abrupt breakdowns rather than speed.
The band released Aeons of Oblivion through Unique Leader Records before signing to Century Media for Heritage, and has toured extensively in Europe and North America. Its recordings are known for a deliberately oppressive production style, with the guitars tuned far down and the mix weighted heavily toward the low end.
