Drag the River

1 upcoming festival

Fort Collins' punks-gone-country, led by ALL's Chad Price and Jon Snodgrass — whiskey-worn harmonies and heartland ache. Fest's morning-after soundtrack.

Drag the River came together in Fort Collins, Colorado in the mid-1990s around Jon Snodgrass and Chad Price, both of whom had backgrounds in punk bands — Price as a vocalist in ALL. The group turned that history toward country and rootsy songwriting, trading two-part harmonies over acoustic guitars, pedal steel and a loose, unpolished band sound.

Their songs tend toward the plainspoken and the rueful, and the group has long been a touchstone for punk musicians drifting into alt-country. Drag the River has broken up and reconvened more than once, with both members maintaining solo work and other projects alongside the band.
