Immolation
Death metal institution running since 1986 on dissonant, gravity-defying riffs and Ross Dolan's granite bellow — uncompromising across four decades.
Immolation came together in Yonkers, New York in 1986, and are led by vocalist and bassist Ross Dolan alongside guitarist Robert Vigna, whose writing gives the band its signature approach: angular, dissonant riff shapes that slide between tempos and rarely settle into conventional resolutions.
Their debut, Dawn of Possession, appeared in 1991, and subsequent records including Here in After and Close to a World Below established them as one of the more distinctive voices in American death metal. Lyrically the band has returned repeatedly to religion, war and human cruelty, and the core partnership of Dolan and Vigna has held steady across the decades.
