Joanne Robertson is from Blackpool and studied at the Slade School of Art, where she developed her parallel work as a painter and poet alongside her music.
Her recordings pair loosely strummed electric guitar with soft, often indistinct singing. The songs tend to be short and unresolved, recorded plainly enough that the line between sketch and finished piece stays deliberately blurred, drifting rather than resolving.
She is widely known for her long-running collaboration with Dean Blunt, appearing on and contributing to a number of his releases as well as issuing joint records with him, alongside her own solo albums.
Her sixth solo album, Blurrr, came out last September, an improvised record shaped by the influence of Grouper, Sinead O'Connor and Dean Blunt, built from loose takes rather than fixed arrangements.
