Laidback Luke
Dutch producer and DJ who helped define the big-room electro house sound of the late 2000s — a technical mixer with a long-running mentorship streak.
Laidback Luke is the working name of Lucas van Scheppingen, a Dutch producer and DJ born in the Philippines and raised in the Netherlands. He began releasing house records in the 1990s and became closely associated with the harder, electro-leaning house that dominated main rooms in the late 2000s, including a version of "Show Me Love" made with Steve Angello. He runs the Mixmash label.
He is known among DJs for an unusually hands-on approach to mixing, favouring quick cuts and layering rather than long blends, and for the amount of time he spends teaching. He has mentored younger producers through online forums, feedback sessions and masterclasses. He also has a long-standing background in martial arts.
