The Bloody Beetroots

Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo's masked electro-house project, born in the blog-house years and still built on distortion, punk aggression and Venetian theatre.

The Bloody Beetroots is the project of Italian producer Simone Cogo, who performs as Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo and appears in a black-and-red mask. It emerged from the electro-house wave of the late 2000s, and Rifo's background in punk fed directly into the sound: overdriven synth lines, blown-out distortion and short, aggressive tracks built more like hardcore songs than club records.

The 2008 single Warp 1.9, made with Steve Aoki, brought wide attention, and the 2009 album Romborama consolidated the style. Rifo has since worked with a range of collaborators across rock and electronic music and has toured both as a DJ and with a live band configuration, the latter placing drums and keyboards behind the same masked persona.
