An organ-guitar-drums supergroup trading in the kind of greasy instrumental interplay that needs no vocalist — jam-world pedigree, pure pocket.

LaMP is an instrumental trio whose name comes from the surnames of its members: guitarist Scott Metzger, organist Ray Paczkowski and drummer Russ Lawton. Paczkowski and Lawton have long played together in the Trey Anastasio Band and as the duo Soule Monde, while Metzger is known for his work in Joe Russo's Almost Dead and the guitar duo Wolf!.

The group works in the organ-trio tradition, with Hammond bass lines under clean, blues- and jazz-inflected guitar, and grooves that are built to stretch. Their material is written but leaves wide room for improvisation, and the emphasis tends to fall on interplay and rhythmic feel rather than solo display.
