Mungo's Hi Fi formed in Glasgow around the turn of the 2000s and built its reputation the way Jamaican sound systems did, by cutting its own tunes and playing them on its own equipment. The crew runs Scotch Bonnet Records, which has released their productions alongside work by the vocalists they record with, among them Solo Banton, Charlie P and Eva Lazarus. The music sits between roots dub and dancehall, with steppers rhythms and digital riddims built for volume.
Cian Finn is an Irish singer who works in roots reggae, and has recorded and toured with the crew. In this pairing he handles the vocals live over Mungo's productions, trading between sung melody and toasting.
