Orville Peck is a country singer who performs in a fringed mask and has kept his personal history largely private, though he spent part of his life in South Africa before relocating to North America. He emerged with the album Pony in 2019, singing in a deep baritone over reverb-soaked guitar that owes as much to Roy Orbison and 1950s balladry as to outlaw country. His songs frequently deal with loneliness, the road and queer desire, and he is one of the more visible openly gay artists working in country music. Later releases include the EP Show Pony and the album Bronco.
