Rico Nasty is Maria Kelly, a rapper from the Washington, DC area who grew up in Maryland. She built an early following through mixtapes released online in the mid-2010s, developing a style she called sugar trap, and broke through with "Smack a Bitch" and the Kenny Beats collaboration Anger Management. Her music moves between melodic trap and a harsher, distorted mode that borrows from punk and metal, with vocals that shift from a conversational murmur to a full scream within a single verse. She has released the album Nightmare Vacation and continued to work across rap and rock-adjacent production, and her live shows lean on the loudest end of that range.
