Rod Stewart

Six decades of gravel and swagger — from the Faces to the Great American Songbook, still rock's raspiest showman.

Rod Stewart is a singer from north London whose career began in the British blues and R&B scene of the 1960s, taking in stints with the Jeff Beck Group and then the Faces, where he sang alongside Ronnie Wood. He ran a solo career in parallel, and albums such as Every Picture Tells a Story established the mix of folk, blues and rock that suited his hoarse, distinctive voice. Through the 1970s and 1980s he moved toward pop and soft rock, and in the 2000s recorded a long series of albums of pre-rock American standards. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both solo and with the Faces.
