Psychedelic bass producer whose sets lean weird rather than purely heavy — wonky low-end from the freeform school.

Shlump is the project of Los Angeles-based producer Michael Petzel, working in the loose zone where dubstep, psytrance and experimental bass overlap. The music tends toward warped, rubbery low-end and heavily processed textures rather than straightforward drops, with tempos that shift between halftime bass and faster psychedelic patterns. Shlump has released through labels associated with the West Coast bass scene and is a regular presence in that circuit's club and outdoor events, where the sound has become one of the reference points for the psy-bass tag.
