Steam Down

Steam Down is a London collective founded in 2017 by saxophonist and producer Ahnansé, built around a weekly session in Deptford, south-east London. The night operated as an open, improvisation-led gathering where a core band was joined by guest instrumentalists, vocalists and MCs, and it became one of the meeting points for the wider south London jazz scene.
Musically the group draws on jazz, Afrobeat, hip-hop, grime and soul, with horn-led themes, heavy drums and call-and-response vocals that involve the audience directly. The emphasis is on collective performance and community rather than a fixed line-up, and Steam Down's recordings have grown out of that live practice.
