The Widdler is an American producer and DJ based in Detroit, working in the deep, dub-rooted end of dubstep. His tracks are built around long, slowly shifting sub-bass, sparse percussion and plenty of empty space, closer in spirit to the sound-system lineage of dub reggae than to the aggressive styles that came to dominate the genre in the 2010s.
He has been a consistent presence in the international deep dubstep scene, releasing on labels associated with that sound and touring widely as a DJ. His sets favour weight and patience over drops, and are designed around large sound systems where the low frequencies can be felt as much as heard.
