Asha Banks
St Albans songwriter, better known to most as a screen actor, writing spare guitar songs under her own name.
Asha Banks grew up in St Albans, born in 2003, and began performing as a child actress in the West End, playing young Éponine in Les Misérables at the Queen's Theatre in 2012. She went on to stage roles including Annie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Spring Awakening at the Almeida Theatre.
Her screen career grew from there: a part in the BBC iPlayer series Rebel Cheer Squad, the lead role of Cara Ward in the BBC Three adaptation of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, and her feature film debut in The Magic Flute. She later starred opposite Matthew Broome in My Fault: London and its sequel Your Fault: London.
Her music is separate from that work: short songs for voice and guitar, recorded plainly, with the lyrics carrying most of the weight. She started writing songs at six years old and taught herself guitar at her local pub, singing songs she loved without any formal training in music theory.
She releases under her own name and plays small rooms with minimal accompaniment. Her debut single, "So Green", came out in late 2024, followed by the EP Untie My Tongue in March 2025, supported by shows in London including two nights at Omeara. A second EP, How Real Was It?, followed in November 2025. Two of her songs, "Feel the Rush" and "Come Down", appeared in the closing credits of the My Fault: London films.
